I have everything a person can desire
and I still want to add to it.
Headlines and stories remind me
about others and their plight
as they struggle in the real world.
A community living on a river bank.
Old tents and tattered blankets
are what is giving shelter.
No fires for heat
or patches to keep out the wind.
Stomachs filled with other’s leftovers.
Speaking of food that is not there,
the single parents that juggle life
trying to work and set an example
for the young that are asking to be taught.
The ones that the single parent
is trying to feed and give shelter.
Safe shelter, a place of security
but not for the ones that do not know
if the home could fall down
by guided missiles of hate,
taking away safety and life.
So many may have
what others would
consider to be nothing
where they may have it all in spirit.
For wanting more, I am so ashamed.
